Five Good SEO Tips – We Draw Round The Fundamentals Of On Page Optimisation

When beginning the optimisation of your website, the first thing to mull over is what keywords you are going to use. Firstly the keywords must be relevant to the subject matter of your webpage, there is no point in trying to use keywords that are unconnected to actual content of that page even if they fit in with the general theme of the rest of your website. Before deciding your keywords, use google adwords keywords tool to check the amount of traffic and competition for each keyword, the tool can even suggest new keywords for you. What makes a good keyword? Well, ideally the keywords you pick should have low competition and high levels of monthly traffic. This means that you will get good levels of traffic with minimal SEO efforts. There are many tools you can use that will also scan your competitors websites and tell you just which keywords they are targetting, how many backlinks they have and the anchor texts used on those backlinks, this is all very valuable information to have under your hat before you set out, these tools are used by professional SEO Services companies. Once you have decided which keywords to use you will need to optimize your webpage so that it will be indexed by the search engines for the keywords you have chosen.

Meta Tags.
The title tag, description tag and keywords tag should all contain the keywords you wish to rank highly for, it is important to remember that the title and descritption tag should be written for readers over search engines, do not make it look spammy in order to acquire a higher keyword density.

Quantity and quality of content.
Next lets take a look at the subject of content, the content is what your readers will be visiting your site for. Make sure that it is on topic in relation to your chosen keywords, informative and interesting to read. The content should also contain around a 1.2% density of each of your keywords, some people reccommend more than 1.2% but I have found this percentage to be sufficient and a lower keyword density makes it far easier to write intelligent and natural content without it looking spammy. The page content should be substantial enough to give a reader the facts and information they are looking for, do not put up a page containing a short paragraph and expect it to rank highly, search engines appreciate content over everything else. The more often you can add to the content on your page the better, Fresh content is to search engines what chocolate is to children, they love it!

Page URL.

It is always desirable to have your most important keyword in your pages url, it gives the search engines a great indication that this term is relevent to the pages content and can often assist your pages ranking.

Backlink building.
Backlinks are links from other domains that point to your webpage, Google and other search engines use these links to calculate the popularity of your web page, each inbound link is counted as a sort of vote for your page and the more votes a page has, the higher it is returned in the search results. Keyword anchored hyperlinks can be used to promote the rankings of any particular keyword on you page. Backlink building can be very time consuming, if you dont have enough hours spare each day to build them yourself, you could always look at SEO Packages.
